Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) - Paul T. Albert Memorial School, Tununak AK
Paul T. Albert Memorial School is the K-12 school that serves the village of Tununak in the Lower Kuskokwim Delta. In 2015, the school was renovated. At that time, they chose to install new water and wastewater treatment systems for the school. The wastewater treatment system consisted of a packaged MBR plant. This is the standard MBR system installed at various schools in the LKSD. The MBR filtrate is disinfected using a medium pressure UV-disinfection system and is discharge into an ocean outfall. This system replaced the existing septic tank and leach field. The leach field was left in place with the option to discharge disinfected filtrate to the leach field in the event that the ocean outfall was no longer an option.
The water treatment system that was installed was required the meet the Surface Water Treatment Rules because the well was considered to be under direct influence due to it's depth. They system consisted of giardia/crypto-rated cartridge filtration and contact volume for sodium hypochlorite disinfection, as well as potable water storage and distribution. The system that was replaced was simply a storage tank with hypochlorite dosing.
