Cordova LT2 UV Disinfection Upgrade Project
This project addressed the new LT2 requirements higher log reduction values based on raw water source quality. Cordova uses three upland water sources with treatment systems installed for each source. UV disinfection was selected to address this requirement because of the small available area at the existing treatment sites. The systems in operation prior to this project consisted of 0.8% sodium hypochlorite generation at each site and contact volume. Given the topography and the land availability at the three sites, additional tank volume for contact time was not an option.
Each source water was evaluated over time to determine the variability in the UV transmittance. This data was used by the UV unit manufacturers to determine the size and number of units required for each site.
